Summer Garden Reading

I just finished reading, Grow the Good Life by Michele Owens and to be honest, I feel like I just got out of a church sermon. My expectations were for a warm fuzzy feel-good summer book about the benefits of having a backyard garden. I thought I was going to read interesting tales of her gardening experiences with her kids, tricks to her success and such, but what I got instead was a quasi scientific, name dropping, soap box sermon about the demise of the world because there are not more backyard gardens.

Unlike the $64 Tomato, which really inspired me to take my garden to the next step, Michele and her book were a real summer downer.

So in spite of my gardening blues…I picked 14-tomatoes and made fresh salsa and bruschetta.  Things are looking up.
